Thank you!

The Aljalian Family

Thank you for visiting this page. This cause is very dear to our hearts.

As many of you may know, when Mary was 2 years old she was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome, a rare and devastating genetic epilepsy.

Mary is always at risk for seizures (hers are triggered by heat (outdoor heat, fevers, running, etc.) or over-excitement). She is also at risk for developmental delays/regression and a host of other challenges.

Today, Mary is doing very well - for which we are very grateful. She is developing well and we currently have good seizure control.

Underlying every moment of life, however, is fear of a seizure. When they do happen, Mary has life-threatening status seizures - which last from 10 minutes to 45 minutes and are very difficult to stop. Every moment she sleeps, there is the fear of SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy).

And, when we think about Mary's future, there is a debilitating fear of the unknown and the uncertainty of what lies ahead for her in life. We pray that she continues to thrive and to develop physically and cognitively. We pray that she lives a happy, healthy and God-pleasing life, and has a chance to live, and love, and see and enjoy the beauty of the world. That's all a parent wants for his/her child.

The Dravet Syndrome Foundation (DSF) is an amazing resource and support, and funds key research efforts. Our hope for Mary lies first in God, and in the wisdom and hands of those who've committed their lives to this important research.

During the month of March, DSF is asking friends to give up a cup of coffee (tea, cocoa, whatever you may drink) and donate that money to DSF.

Please GIVE UP YOUR CUP (or as many as you'd like) for our sweet Mary.

We appreciate it, so very much.

(p.s. for all who GIVE UP YOUR CUP - we will enter your name into a drawing for a $25 Starbucks Gift Card. We'll have Mary draw the winning name at the end of March!)

(As many have asked -- you may send me / give me your donation in person if that is easier than doing so online, and I will enter it online for you. We are deeply moved by your generosity and kindness - thank you, very much.)
